Once Chelsea’s takeover is completed, they are likely to be one of the busiest Premier League teams in the summer transfer season.
According to rumors in Germany, Todd Boehly is likely to offer Thomas Tuchel a large quantity of money to start the new era at Stamford Bridge this summer, and the Chelsea manager is now targeting RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku in addition to his teammate Josko Gvardiol. Chelsea are looking to replace outgoing defensive combination Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, and the Croatian centre-back, who was previously sought by Leeds, is one of their signing priority ahead of the summer season.
He is not, however, the only Leipzig player Tuchel is considering, with Nkunku now firmly in his sights…
He is ‘very interested’ in the attacker, according to Sky Germany, although Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick is also interested in bringing Nkunku to Old Trafford.
Tuchel is familiar with Nkunku, 24, from their time together at PSG, where he played before joining RB Leipzig.
Rangnick was also employed by Leipzig when the £12.5 million transfer of Nkunku from the Ligue 1 giants began in the summer of 2019.
Now, when the transfer window opens, the two Germans might face off in a direct scrap for the player’s services.
Leipzig, on the other hand, is anxious to extend the player’s contract after an outstanding individual season.
Nkunku has scored 34 goals and provided 20 assists across all competitions.
This means he’s been involved in 54 goals in 50 club appearances this season, impressive stats that have earned him worldwide acclaim.
Nkunku is on track to make France’s World Cup team for the tournament in Qatar in November.
But, before that, he’ll have a lot of alternatives ahead of the 2022/23 season, which means he’ll have to make a big decision about his future at the end of this season.
