Settling in at Chelsea
Tosin Adarabioyo, who transferred from Fulham to Chelsea earlier this summer, has now had a few weeks to get accustomed to the new Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca. The 26-year-old defender is eager to make a strong impression, especially given the stiff competition for a spot in the center-back position.
Competing for a Place
Adarabioyo will be vying for a place in the starting lineup alongside Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, and Wesley Fofana. There’s also the possibility of Chelsea adding another center-back before the transfer window closes, with Nottingham Forest’s Murillo still on their radar.
Adarabioyo’s Experience with Maresca
So far, Adarabioyo appears to be relishing his time under Maresca’s guidance. Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, he shared his thoughts on the new manager’s approach and demands.
Emphasis on Defense
Adarabioyo mentioned that Maresca has been particularly demanding of the defenders at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground, making them central to the team’s strategy. “I’ve enjoyed my first few weeks. We are working hard and learning the way the manager wants us to play. We have spent time focusing on that while doing the physical work,” he said. “It’s great because he is asking a lot of me and the other defenders. It starts with the central defenders and the goalkeeper; we are the focal point.”
Adarabioyo’s Potential Role
While Adarabioyo might not start every game due to the abundance of center-back options, he still has the potential to be a valuable asset for Chelsea.
Strengths and Utility
Standing at 6 ft 5, Adarabioyo’s height makes him a formidable presence in the air. According to FBref, he ranks in the 88th percentile for aerials won among his peers over the past year. This skill could be particularly useful in the latter stages of games when Chelsea needs to defend against aerial threats.
Despite possibly not being a regular starter, Adarabioyo can still make significant contributions when called upon. Acquiring him on a free transfer is likely one of the savvier moves Chelsea’s current owners have made.
