Tony Cascarino, a former Chelsea striker, believes the team will not win the league until it acquires a goalscorer.
Chelsea spent a lot of money on Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, but they haven’t been able to repeat their scoring record at Stamford Bridge.
If Chelsea had a good striker in their ranks, Cascarino feels they would have defeated Liverpool in the FA Cup final.
Cascarino has recommended that Timo Werner be sold and Lukaku be sent out, with Lautaro Martinez replacing him.
“Chelsea will not win the league unless they find a quality finisher,” Cascarino told The Times. In many aspects, the attacking players they now have are elite skills, but they need a clinical striker.
“As was the case in Saturday’s FA Cup final against Liverpool, they require far too many chances to score or not score.
“This season, Mason Mount is their league’s top scorer, which is not how it should be at a club like Chelsea.”
“I like the lad Lautaro Martinez at Inter,” Cascarino said, “therefore I would advise they offer Inter the option to take Romelu Lukaku back on loan, get rid of Timo Werner, and bring Martnez in.”
“They need a technical, ferocious forward like him.” Harry Kane would be fantastic for them, but considering the rivalry with Tottenham, I don’t think he’d be interested.”
