“Leave him for us” sky pundit ‘Very shocked’ as transfer deal involving Arsenal & Chelsea
After losing out on the sale of Marc Cucurella to Chelsea and selling Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal, Michael Dawson questioned how Manchester City could put itself in such a vulnerable position.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The former Tottenham defender continued by stating that he is “very startled” by Manchester City’s predicament and how they are now lacking a left-back.
This summer, Arsenal spent £32 million for the skills of Zinchenko, a player Pep Guardiola utilized at fullback but who prefers to play in the centre of the park for Ukraine.
The defending Premier League winners immediately started looking for his replacement, and they settled on Cucurella, who won Player of the Year honors for Brighton in his debut season in England’s top division.
However, Chelsea outbid Manchester City for his services, paying £63 million to get the Spanish superstar (ESPN).
Dawson discussed Zinchenko being a “fantastic addition” for the Gunners and the current scenario Manchester City is in.
Dawson admitted, “I was shocked, really, very startled. Zinchenko was spotted leaving for Arsenal. a superb acquisition for Arsenal.
“You have Cancelo, who is a phenomenal player, yet they said they would sign Cucurella after taking one glance at him.
“We all believed, or at least I did, that Chelsea would appear out of nowhere and purchase Cucurella for more than £60 million when Manchester City went to Brighton and announced that they wanted the player.
I’m thinking, “Wow. I was surprised, and Pep (Guardiola) got the short end of the stick because he wouldn’t have let Zinchenko go.
“How can you expose yourself like that? Given the number of games Manchester City plays in each tournament, he will need to find another left-back because they now only have Cancelo (at left-back).
Although Zinchenko wasn’t a regular at the Etihad, he was still a crucial player for Guardiola because of his versatility and use in those crucial matches.
Arsenal will benefit from Manchester City’s loss because, as they witnessed against Crystal Palace on Monday night, he is a really talented player.
It would be fascinating to watch if Guardiola fills that position this summer since they need to rotate constantly if they hope to win the Champions League, which is really vital.
Guardiola does so frequently, as fantasy football players are all too aware, but he cannot afford to start this action-packed season by just depending on Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo.
