Bergstrom joins Chelsea in the 2018/19 season, having previously played for Turun Palloseura in Finland.
The 19-year-old has yet to make his Premier League debut for the club but has played frequently for the club’s Under 18s and Under 23s squads.
But, in the next season, the 6ft 7in keeper seems ready to have his first taste of regular senior action.
Bergstrom has finally finalized a loan move to Peterborough United, where he will play on a temporary basis until the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.
The goalkeeper joins Ben Thompson, a permanent midfielder, and Harvey Cartwright, a fellow Hull loanee, as Peterborough’s third acquisition of the summer window.
After being relegated from the Championship at the conclusion of last season, Peterborough will look to return to League One in the following season.
This appears to be a potentially beneficial signing for Peterborough to complete.
With David Cornell gone, Christy Pym on the move, and Steven Benda’s loan stay coming to an end, the Posh are in desperate need of a new goalkeeper for next season.
With the additions of Bergstrom and Cartwright, they have now guaranteed that position, and it will be intriguing to watch who emerges as the club’s number one next season, considering that both will be hoping for playing time during their loan periods at London Road.
However, with none of these goalkeepers having played regular senior football in their careers, you have to ask whether Peterborough is taking a risk by not bringing in a more experienced alternative in this position.
