Joe Cole, a former Chelsea player, thinks that keeping Kai Havertz up front and using Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang more as a sub is the Blues’ “path forward.”
In their first game back after the World Cup on Tuesday night, Chelsea defeated Bournemouth 2-0 with a goal from Havertz, who started in Aubameyang’s place.
Cole believes he has cemented his position after setting up Mason Mount for the second goal as well.
Cole said of Havertz after the game on Amazon Prime: “He’s a terrific guy. He needs to be more vicious. He scored and assisted, and he was fantastic.
I believe that’s the best move for Chelsea going forward that he went with Havertz. Excellent goal for Chelsea.
Tony Pulis, a former Premier League manager, concurred that Aubameyang is not the same player he once was.
He continued, “I think you need depth when you’re a top four Premier League side, and they purchased him more for cover than anything else.”
“He’s dropped over the hill from being that good.” Although he’s no longer the main character, I’m confident he’ll contribute something during the season.
