“I’ve got to tell you” – Jason Cundy picks who’s having the better season between Nicolas Jackson or Kai Havertz
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chelsea’s young striker Nicolas Jackson and Arsenal’s Kai Havertz have been making waves in the Premier League this season, and the comparison between the two is heating up.
At Stamford Bridge, Nicolas Jackson, only 23, has emerged as a bright spark in Chelsea’s squad. He’s proving that he’s not just good enough to wear the blue shirt but to lead the line as the main man. Eight games into the Premier League season, Jackson has found the back of the net five times and added three assists to his tally. This Senegalese forward is silencing doubters, as even David Seaman noted on his podcast, acknowledging Jackson’s ability to prove people wrong with his performances.
On the other hand, Kai Havertz, now leading the attack for Arsenal after his move from Chelsea, is finding a steadier rhythm that eluded him during his time at the Bridge. The 25-year-old German has contributed four goals and an assist in his eight Premier League appearances. His consistency, much questioned in his Chelsea days, seems to be coming together at Arsenal.
Yet, former Chelsea player and now talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy believes it’s Nicolas Jackson who’s outshining Havertz so far this season. Cundy, discussing Jackson, remarked: “This boy has got a lot to offer. He’s raw, yes, but the talent is clear. Five Premier League goals already this season. People are buzzing about what Kai Havertz is doing at Arsenal, and sure, he’s doing fine. But if you put their stats side by side, right now, Jackson is outpacing him.”
Jackson’s all-around game has been a revelation for Chelsea this term. While he is essential to the team’s setup, many will ultimately judge him based on his goal-scoring prowess. His strike at Anfield last weekend in Chelsea’s defeat to Liverpool was a showcase of his improving finishing skills, calmly slotting past the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.
With Christopher Nkunku waiting in the wings to challenge for the starting spot as Chelsea’s No. 9, Jackson knows he can’t afford to slow down. His strong start to the season has set the tone, but now, he must aim to surpass his achievements from last year. If he can maintain this momentum, it could be the beginning of something special in his Chelsea career.
