The United legend, known for his high standards, expressed his disappointment, adding that such behavior would never have been accepted at Old Trafford, especially under Sir Alex Ferguson’s watch.
Calls for a Firmer Stance
Ferdinand believes Maresca should have been tougher on Madueke, suggesting that a fine would’ve sent a stronger message. Instead, Ferdinand was baffled to see Maresca defending the player in his post-match interview. “It’s mad that the manager is covering for him,” Ferdinand remarked. He added that, in his own experience, a two-week fine would be a fitting consequence for such behavior.
The Need for Leadership in a Young Chelsea Squad
Ferdinand also highlighted the importance of leadership within the Chelsea squad, questioning who among the team’s younger players would step up to address Madueke’s actions. “Who’s going to stand up and say, ‘We don’t accept that here’?” he asked, underlining the need for experienced players to set and uphold standards.
