“It was a terrible one, Is not up to red card” – Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy disallow referee decision to send Malo Gusto off against Aston Villa this afternoon
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy strongly disagrees with referee Jarred Gillett’s decision to send off Malo Gusto during the recent match against Aston Villa.
Initially, Gillett showed Gusto a yellow card in the second half, but after a VAR review, it was changed to a red card. Cundy voiced his dissent during the commentary on Chelsea’s official website, asserting, “I don’t think that’s a red. He wins the ball. Honestly, that is not a red card. It’s a terrible decision, it’s a terrible decision.”
The 20-year-old’s suspension will be a significant setback for Mauricio Pochettino, especially since Reece James, the other right-back, is also unavailable due to injury.
Now, there is speculation regarding who will replace Gusto in the team while the young French player is sidelined.
This red card marks a minor setback for Malo Gusto. He will likely be disappointed with this turn of events, and it arguably impacted Chelsea’s performance, with Villa capitalizing on their numerical advantage.
Despite the setback, Gusto, a former Lyon player, has shown promise in a Chelsea jersey, particularly in offensive play, registering a couple of assists in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory against Luton Town last month.
However, Chelsea, as a team, has been struggling, especially in their attacking efforts, with Pochettino’s squad facing challenges in finding the back of the net.
Red cards like Gusto’s are certainly not aiding their cause. It’s a point of concern as they had failed to score even before Gusto’s dismissal, raising doubts about whether they would have managed to score with him on the pitch, considering their overall performance this season.
