Romelu Lukaku of Chelsea suffered an ankle injury while on international duty with Belgium.
Lukaku’s right ankle twisted awkwardly when he was trapped underneath Nathan Ake in a struggle for possession in Belgium’s Nations League match against the Netherlands in Brussels on Friday.
The event occurred in the game’s 23rd minute. Lukaku attempted to continue but was forced to leave before the half-hour mark.
Belgium eventually lost 4-1, and Lukaku’s presence up front was missed, as all of Belgium’s goals came after he left.
Belgium coach Roberto Martinez was critical of the injury, telling HLN: “It doesn’t seem good.” His ankle was twisted.
“We’ll have to wait 48 hours for the MRI results, but I’d be amazed if he’s still playing in the next few games.” That’s how I feel.”
