Gareth Bale has announced his departure from La Liga champions Real Madrid after nine trophy-laden years with the club.

“I write this letter to express my gratitude to all of my teammates, past and present, my managers, the backroom staff, and the fans who have supported me,” the Wales international stated. I came to Madrid nine years ago as a young man hoping to fulfill a childhood goal of playing for Real Madrid.
“Being a part of Real Madrid’s history and achieving what we did when I was a player was a fantastic experience that I will never forget.”
“I also want to thank President Florentino Perez, Jose Angel Sanchez, and the board for allowing me to play for this club,” he continued.
