“Top 4 Hopes in Jeopardy” – Mikel Obi Criticizes Chelsea Star After Costly Draw Against Crystal Palace
Chelsea’s Struggles Continue with a 1-1 Draw
Chelsea’s lackluster Premier League run dragged on as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday. Despite dominating most of the game, the Blues couldn’t capitalize on their early lead, extending their winless streak in the league to four matches (two draws and two losses).

Chelsea got off to an energetic start, with Jadon Sancho leading the charge in their opening goal. His clever dummy and impressive run through the Palace defense paved the way for Cole Palmer, who confidently found the back of the net in the 14th minute.
Missed Chances Prove Costly
The Blues had several chances to double their lead, the most notable being Pedro Neto’s expertly delivered free-kick to the back post. However, Nicolas Jackson’s failure to convert his volley squandered the opportunity. These missed chances allowed Palace to regain momentum, particularly during the second half.
Palace Equalizes After Chelsea’s Misstep
Crystal Palace leveled the score in the 76th minute when Jean-Philippe Mateta capitalized on a misplaced pass from Palmer. Mateta’s clinical finish in a swift counter-attack left Robert Sánchez with no chance, and Chelsea couldn’t recover despite late attempts to reclaim the lead. Manager Enzo Maresca’s frustration was evident on the sidelines as his team faltered yet again.
Nicolas Jackson Faces Criticism from Mikel Obi
Former Chelsea star John Mikel Obi didn’t hold back in his assessment of Nicolas Jackson’s performance. The striker has been under fire for failing to convert critical chances, costing Chelsea much-needed points.
Mikel Obi’s Verdict
“Jackson should have sealed the game in the first half, but he wasted several golden opportunities. He needs to sharpen his finishing,” Mikel Obi remarked.
The former midfielder suggested that Enzo Maresca explore the transfer market for a reliable striker who can consistently deliver in high-pressure situations.
“If you can’t finish clear chances, you can’t win crucial games or secure a top-four finish,” Mikel Obi added.
A Call for Improvement Before January
With the January transfer window approaching, the pressure mounts on Chelsea to address their shortcomings. Whether Jackson can find his form or Maresca opts to bring in reinforcements, it’s clear that the Blues need a clinical edge to salvage their season and keep their Champions League hopes alive.
