“If Chelsea can sell these two transfer mistake players” Chelsea will come back stronger
Graeme Souness, a former player for Liverpool, has criticized Chelsea for spending £170 million on defenders in the summer after allowing Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner to depart the team.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Souness criticized the team’s hiring procedure last summer and maintains that Graham Potter is not to blame for Chelsea’s lackluster start to the season.
What was Chelsea talking about prior to arriving here, Souness questioned. They were able to get away with it in the first half despite knowing they would be aggressive, but when they turned violent they were unable to coexist with Forest.
“They aren’t capable of being a different animal when you’re in a conflict out there. The top four goal scorers each scored four. Are they a better team than Lukaku or Timo Werner? They are failing to score any goals.
“What’s the thinking if you lose your two strikers and spend £170 million on defenders? Getting a striker should unquestionably be a top priority after releasing Timo Werner and Lukaku.
I believe Potter needs more time. This team lacks the tools necessary to play in and dominate important football matches. There is a plus-two goal differential.
Romelu Lukaku went back to Inter Milan on loan last summer, while Chelsea sent Timo Werner back to RB Leipzig for £25 million.
Souness is perplexed by Chelsea’s decision to prioritize bolstering the defense, bringing in Kalidou Koulibaly for £33 million from Napoli, Marc Cucurella for £56 million from Brighton, and Wesley Fofana for £69.5 million from Leicester.
“No, he [Havertz] isn’t going to score enough goals,” Souness continued. Selling Timo Werner and Lukaku before spending £170 million on three defenders is insane. You must believe that football has never changed.
“Goal scorers are the hardest thing to find. Spending £170 million on defenders is something you should do if you can, but selling two strikers is more important in my opinion because they were better than what they currently have. You cannot claim that their current weaponry makes them better off.
