High-Profile Departures from Chelsea
Last summer saw a number of notable players exit Chelsea, including N’Golo Kante and Mason Mount. These high-profile departures marked a significant shift for the club.
Mason Mount’s Uncertain Future at Manchester United
Despite joining Old Trafford just a year ago, Mason Mount might already be on the verge of leaving Manchester United.
Other Departures
Alongside the big names, Chelsea also saw players like Lewis Hall, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Ethan Ampadu move on during the previous summer transfer window.
Lewis Hall’s Move to Newcastle
Last August, Newcastle United secured Lewis Hall from Chelsea on a loan deal, which has now turned into a permanent transfer valued at £28 million.
Hall’s Reflections on His Newcastle Experience
In an interview with NUFC TV, shared on the Magpies’ official YouTube channel, Hall opened up about his challenges since joining Newcastle. He mentioned the difficulties of moving to a new club, especially being far from home. “It’s not easy, especially after a tough day at training, coming back to an empty house. But I had a lot of support from my family and everyone at the club, which helped me grow both as a player and a person.”
Despite interest from Borussia Dortmund, Hall is set to remain with Newcastle for the 2024/25 season.
The Talent Drain at Chelsea’s Left-Back Position
Chelsea has lost a significant amount of talent at left-back, including Lewis Hall and Ian Maatsen, who recently moved to Aston Villa. This leaves new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca relying on Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell.
Evaluating the Current Left-Back Options
While Cucurella has shown his capabilities, especially at Euro 2024 where Rio Ferdinand praised him as the best left-back of the tournament, Chilwell’s frequent injuries raise concerns about his reliability. Additionally, there are rumors that Manchester United is interested in bringing Chilwell on board as they look for a new left-back.
