Speaking after the match, Mikel didn’t hold back in his assessment of Maresca’s current situation at Stamford Bridge:
“Enzo Maresca has completely lost the dressing room. You can’t start a game well, take the lead, and then lose—it shows something is wrong,” Mikel stated.
“I’m calling Maresca out after this defeat. He needs to address the issues with players who are unhappy and rebuild the relationship with his squad.”
Concerns Over Chelsea’s Declining Form
Reflecting on Chelsea’s season, Mikel highlighted the team’s dip in intensity and performance:
“We started the season well—the coach and players seemed to be on the same page. But suddenly, everything changed. There’s no intensity in their games anymore.”
“I’ve been told that if Maresca continues to lose, he may be sacked. The club expects him to succeed in the UEFA Champions League. If he doesn’t resolve these problems with his players, his time at Chelsea could be over soon.”
Frustration Over Players’ Performance
Mikel also questioned whether Maresca bears responsibility for the team’s struggles, especially considering the dip in form of key players:
“Now, it seems like every player isn’t performing—even our best players are struggling. How can you tell me that’s not on the manager?” Mikel added.
Chelsea’s Top-Four Hopes in Jeopardy
Following back-to-back defeats, Chelsea remains sixth in the Premier League table, and hopes of securing a top-four finish now look increasingly difficult. With pressure mounting, Maresca faces a crucial period to turn things around and keep Chelsea’s season on track.
