Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has reiterated his confidence in Nicolas Jackson as the team’s first-choice center-forward, while also emphasizing the vital role Christopher Nkunku will play this season. Maresca praised Jackson’s contributions both on and off the ball, highlighting his goal-scoring, teamwork, and relentless pressing as essential assets.
“We know very well that he is important for us,” Maresca stated when discussing Jackson. “On the ball, he’s working fantastic – he’s scoring goals, assisting, and linking up with his teammates. Off the ball, he’s pressing the way we want, and he’s doing fantastic with us.”
However, Maresca is quick to acknowledge Nkunku’s significance, particularly as Chelsea navigates a packed fixture list. Nkunku is currently Chelsea’s top scorer across all competitions with eight goals, though only one of those has come in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Jackson has netted five times in the league, showing his influence domestically.
Maresca sees value in both players, explaining, “We also have Christopher [Nkunku] there. He’s going to help us because the season is very long. We have so many games, and sometimes the game plan may suit Christopher over Nico. We also have young talent to consider, so we can adapt.”
With multiple competitions and varied opponents, Chelsea’s squad depth in attack could prove essential. Maresca’s strategic approach allows both Jackson and Nkunku to shine in different scenarios, keeping the Blues competitive on all fronts.
