Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba welcomed newly acquired Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to his beloved old squad.
Drogba replied to the 33-year-old forward’s tweet announcing the purchase of his new No. 9 jersey. The former Ivorian player brought up a moment when he and Aubameyang had previously discussed perhaps heading to Stamford Bridge.
Tweeted Drogba:
“At last!!!!! Recall the conversation we had about it years ago. I’m glad for you, brother.
In the last hours of the transfer window, which is already closed, Aubameyang completed a trade from Barcelona to Stamford Bridge. After Robert Lewandowski joined the Catalans for £42.5 million earlier this summer, the former international for Gabon fell further down the Blaugrana’s pecking order (via Sky Sports).
The Gabonese attacker did, however, manage to score 13 goals and add an assist in 24 games across all competitions during his brief stay at Barcelona.
In the transfer market, Thomas Tuchel’s management has received support from Todd Boehly, Chelsea’s new co-owner. With a staggering £273 million spent on acquisitions this season, the Blues hold the top spot in terms of overall spending. This amount exceeds the record established by the West London group itself two years ago (via The Athletic).
This summer, among others, the Blues signed Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The team has, however, also suffered some market losses this time around. Among the players who have left Stamford Bridge this summer are Emerson, Andreas Christensen, Timo Werner, and Antonio Rudiger.
