Frank Leboeuf’s Perspective on Chelsea’s Pre-Season Struggles
A Voice of Honest Criticism
Former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf has never been afraid to voice his honest opinions about the club he used to play for. He has been vocal in criticizing the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk for his tough start to life at Stamford Bridge. Even owner Todd Boehly has not escaped criticism since taking over the club, in what is fair to say has not been a memorable era in their history.
Expectations of Criticism
After Chelsea’s draw and heavy defeat against Wrexham and Celtic respectively, many will have expected the Frenchman to be critical of what he had seen so far this summer.
Leboeuf Defends Chelsea
However, Leboeuf told ESPN that people need to calm down when analyzing Chelsea based on just pre-season results. He said: “Calm down. Second game, you know, they just started, you know. We are not going to start thrashing Chelsea because of two pre-season games. I don’t care, you know. They can lose any game. You win friendly games and you don’t win any Premier League game, you are going to be thrashed, but I don’t understand you are so extreme right now. Take it easy, my man, it’s just a tour, they are working and we are going to judge them after the first game of the Premier League. What they do before, I don’t care.”
Adjusting to Maresca’s Style
It has been clear that the Blues have been getting to grips with a new style of play under new manager Enzo Maresca. This has seen a number of players feature in unfamiliar positions, such as Reece James cropping up in midfield as an inverted full-back. Malo Gusto has already filled this role too, however, it does look as if one full-back, in particular, will be best suited to doing this.
Marc Cucurella’s Prospects
Marc Cucurella has not yet joined up with the club after winning the European Championships with Spain this summer. His resurgence under Mauricio Pochettino in the final weeks of last season showed that he has the ability to turn his prospects around at Stamford Bridge, after a rough start to life following his move from Brighton.
