‘How is this allowed?’ – Chelsea agree deal to sell forgotten player who played just 28 minutes for the club as fans ask
Chelsea Sells Player Just One Season After Signing, Stirring Controversy in the Premier League
Chelsea has agreed to offload a player just a year after his arrival at the club, sparking discontent among Premier League fans. The Blues have been active in the summer 2024/25 transfer window, bringing in talents like Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Deivid Washington’s Departure
It now appears that one of those players, Deivid Washington, has secured a deal away from Chelsea, much to the displeasure of fans. According to a report from L’Equipe, Chelsea has agreed to sell Washington to Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg in a deal that will break the French club’s transfer record.
Chelsea is set to receive €21 million for the young forward, just 12 months after signing him from Brazilian club Santos for €16 million on a seven-year contract with an option for an additional year.
Fan Reactions and Concerns
However, since RC Strasbourg is co-owned by BlueCo, the same group that owns Chelsea, the deal has not sat well with many fans. Reactions on X (formerly Twitter) have been critical. One fan commented, “They bought him for €16m in 23/24, played him 25 minutes across 3 separate games, flipped him for €21m a year later, which means that for the period of the 24/25 season they registered a profit of €13m on him. Hello?”
Another fan questioned the integrity of the transaction, stating, “When are regulators going to police these financial shenanigans properly? Too scared to take on the biggest clubs but happy to sanction smaller clubs.” Another simply said, “If Chelsea get away with all this, then the game’s gone.”
There was even a humorous take on the situation: “This has to be looked at surely. There’s going to be some Gus Fring figure lurking in a lab in New Mexico rubbing his hands together.”
Washington’s Time at Chelsea
Washington featured for Chelsea during preseason but has yet to make a senior appearance in the 2024/25 campaign. Last season, he spent most of his time with Chelsea’s U21 squad, where he scored six goals in 11 games.
Sterling’s Possible Departure
In addition to Washington’s exit, Raheem Sterling is another player who seems to have fallen out of favor with Maresca. Sterling could potentially join Arsenal on deadline day, adding to the significant changes within Chelsea’s squad under the new manager.
