Graeme Souness criticized Chelsea’s summer signing plan, stating it had left them lacking in attacking options.

Souness has emphasised that Kai Havertz, who started up front against Forest, is not the solution in that position because he is more of a creative player. He has also claimed that Chelsea lacks depth in their attacking line.
Romelu Lukaku returned to Inter Milan on loan last summer, and Chelsea received £7 million for selling Timo Werner back to RB Leipzig.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was acquired by Chelsea for £10 million from Barcelona, but the striker has struggled with consistency and has only registered one league goal this year.
Despite Chelsea not having many other options up front, Aubameyang’s recent problems have been so severe that he has been left out of the starting eleven.
Souness is perplexed by the fact that Chelsea prioritized bolstering their defense, bringing in Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli for £33 million, Marc Cucurella from Brighton for £56 million, and Wesley Fofana from Leicester for £69.5 million.
Havertz is not a good front-line option for Chelsea, claims Souness. He talked about how important it is to sign goal scorers.
Souness asserted on Sky Sports: “No, he won’t score enough goals. Selling Lukaku and Timo Werner and then spending £170 million on three defenders is insane. You must be thinking that football hasn’t changed at all.
“Goal scorers are the toughest thing to find.” Spending £170 million on defenders is OK if you have the money to do it, but selling two forwards is more important in my opinion because they weren’t the solution in the long or medium term, even though they were better than what they currently had. You cannot claim that their current weaponry makes them better off.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, a former Chelsea striker, asserted that he preferred Havertz to Werner in the attacking third, although Souness insisted that Chelsea erred by failing to buy a striker.
Jamie Redknapp said that Chelsea will deal with the problem by bringing in Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig next summer.
According to Hasselbaink, Havertz is Chelsea’s top offensive option right now.
