He should be the MOTM not me – Mason Mount says 25-year-old Chelsea player should’ve been MOTM last night instead of him
Mason Mount feels that his Chelsea teammate Denis Zakaria should have been awarded man of the match against Dinamo Zagreb last night.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! At Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, Chelsea defeated Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 to complete the group stages of the Champions League and get back on the winning track.
Prior to yesterday, Graham Potter’s team had already secured first place, but it was still a much-needed victory following the recent league defeat at Brighton.
Chelsea responded with goals from Raheem Sterling and Zakaria despite conceding early against Dinamo Zagreb.
The Blues now know who they will play in the round of 16 of the Champions League: Club Brugge, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, Inter Milan, RB Leipzig, or Paris Saint-Germain.
Zakaria deserved to be named the game’s MVP.
Despite being named UEFA’s man of the match against Dinamo Zagreb, Mount feels that debutant Zakaria should have received the honor instead of him.
Zakaria, 25, performed admirably in his first game for the Blues.
In addition to covering a lot of ground and having a significant impact on the game overall, the Swiss midfielder scored the game-winning goal in the first half.
The club’s official website cited Mount as saying: “Denis Zakaria came in and was unbelievable. He is deserving of the man of the match more than I am, plus he also scored!
“It was brilliant of him to start the game after not playing. I’m thrilled for him to get this chance and succeed so well.
Zakaria was a true standout in the Champions League victory and was given high appreciation by Potter following the game. Let’s hope he has more to offer in Chelsea colors as well.
But Mount should also be extremely happy with his effort.
The 23-year-old Blues star appeared to be very at ease playing at his preferred position of midfielder, a slightly deeper position.
