Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao are dealing with long-term injuries after ACL ruptures, while Dani Ceballos, Ferland Mendy, and Vinicius Junior have been facing less severe muscular issues.
Vinicius is on the verge of returning to training, and both Ceballos and Mendy have been training with the group this week. However, Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Mendy won’t be part of the squad against La Real.
“Ferland Mendy has not recovered. He won’t be in the squad tomorrow.”
Ancelotti is optimistic about having Mendy back for Real Madrid’s Champions League opener against Union Berlin on Wednesday.
“I think Ferland Mendy will be in the squad for Wednesday’s game vs Union Berlin.”
This implies that Fran Garcia is likely to continue at left-back against La Real, despite an error that led to Getafe’s goal in Real Madrid’s previous match. However, Mendy’s return may change the lineup.
Ancelotti did confirm that Ceballos will be included in the Real Madrid squad for Sunday’s match, which is a positive development. The coach is keen to have as many players available as possible for the upcoming schedule, with Los Blancos set to play seven matches in a three-week span.
