“He has no football intelligence” – Gabby Agbonlahor blast 23-year-old Chelsea player
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In the aftermath of Chelsea’s disheartening 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, Gabby Agbonlahor didn’t hold back in criticizing Mykhailo Mudryk for his lackluster performance after being introduced in the second half.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor expressed his disappointment with Mudryk’s contribution, pointing out a perceived deficiency in football intelligence. The 23-year-old winger’s inability to make a meaningful impact, characterized by running into opponents and errant kicks leading to the ball going out of play, drew sharp criticism from the former Aston Villa striker.
Agbonlahor minced no words in his assessment, stating, “You’ve got Mudryk coming on, he hasn’t learnt anything, running into people, kicking it out of play. He doesn’t look like he’s got a football intelligence.”
While Chelsea’s overall attacking performance left much to be desired, with Christopher Nkunku providing some bright moments upon his introduction, it was the Frenchman who salvaged a consolation goal for the Blues. Agbonlahor’s critique, however, was squarely aimed at Mudryk’s perceived shortcomings.
The Ukrainian international, signed for a substantial £89 million according to BBC Sport, has faced scrutiny for his inconsistency and lack of a decisive final pass. Despite a slight improvement compared to the previous season, with three goals and one assist by February, Mudryk’s overall contribution remains underwhelming considering the significant investment made in his acquisition.
As Chelsea evaluates its squad dynamics, there is now a growing question about whether Mudryk, despite the hefty price tag, might benefit from a loan spell to further develop and refine his skills. The current state of his game raises concerns about his readiness to make a substantial impact in the demanding and competitive landscape of top-tier English football.
