Meanwhile, Didier Deschamps, France’s head coach, has made an unexpected disclosure regarding the Chelsea target.
Deschamps explained that Kounde has been suffering from an ailment for some months but chose to postpone surgery until after France’s most recent series of matches.
On Monday night, the 23-year-old started France’s UEFA Nations League loss at home to Croatia, but was substituted off at halftime.
Deschamps said after the game that the adjustment was not tactical, but rather due to his physical condition.
When asked about Kounde and the decision to take him off, Deschamps remarked, “I understood very well his physical condition today.”
“He will undergo an [surgical] intervention tomorrow [Tuesday] since he has an issue that has been bothering him for several months.”
Deschamps did not specify the degree of Kounde’s injury or how long the Sevilla defender will be out.
