Scott Minto believes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Chelsea was outstanding in his most recent game for the team.
Chelsea defeated Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 tonight in the Champions League group stages to get back on the winning track.
Even though the Blues had already clinched first place in Group E, Wednesday’s game seemed crucial to recover from the weekend’s loss to Brighton.
At Stamford Bridge, Bruno Petkovic’s header for Dinamo Zagreb in the seventh minute gave the visitors the advantage.
However, Raheem Sterling quickly equalised with a superb left-footed finish after scoring the first goal.
On the halfway point, Denis Zakaria—who was making his Chelsea debut—scored the game’s final goal with a forceful low shot from inside the box.
Against Dinamo Zagreb, Aubameyang
Aubameyang received special recognition from Minto for his performance midweek on the European stage. He particularly admired his work ethic and enthusiasm.
In the second session, the 33-year-old forward came within inches of scoring with a shot that hit the crossbar. He contributed to the development of the opening goal as well.
Graham Potter removed him from the game in the 64th minute, possibly with an eye on this weekend’s league game against Arsenal. His night came to an end at that point.
Aubameyang didn’t score, but Minto was highly delighted by his total impact.
“He has been relentlessly tracking back with great movement. He has never before put in as much effort. During the second half of Chelsea vs. Dinamo Zagreb, he said on talkSPORT, “I think he’s ready for the game on Sunday… who’s it against?
Even though Aubameyang was unable to add to his season total of three goals, this evening saw several encouraging indicators from him.
When the forward didn’t start against Brighton, Jason Cundy was very taken aback.
But it would be unexpected if he wasn’t in the starting lineup for the following league game against Arsenal.
