According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea is currently undecided on whether to keep Trevoh Chalobah this summer. Mauricio Pochettino, the Chelsea manager, has not made a final decision on the defender’s future.
With the return of Levi Colwill, Chalobah’s place in the squad may be at risk. Chalobah has received attractive offers from Inter Milan, the Champions League finalists, to play in Italy. Additionally, there is Premier League interest in Chalobah, with Newcastle reportedly interested in acquiring his services.
Jacobs suggests that Chalobah may not have a clear pathway to game time at Chelsea, given the competition for positions. However, Chalobah’s versatility, as he can play as a center-back, right-back, or defensive midfielder, may appeal to both Chelsea and Newcastle.
Pochettino is reportedly unsure about Chalobah’s future and wants to assess the player, along with Conor Gallagher, before making a final decision. While Newcastle has shown interest in Chalobah in the past, it is not yet clear if Chelsea is willing to sell him.
Given the potential departure of Thiago Silva, it could be advisable for Chelsea to retain Chalobah as a backup option. However, considering the quality of the other center-backs at the club, it may be challenging for Chalobah to secure a regular starting role.
