Chelsea is interested in signing defender Ronnie Edwards, according to Barry Fry, the director of football of Peterborough United, who confirmed this to the Peterborough Telegraph.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Posh, who are now on six points after two games back in League One, have had a great start to the season thanks in large part to the 19-year-old.
Darren Ferguson, the club’s former manager when they played in the Championship, regarded him as one of his favourites and called the defender “amazing.”
According to Fry, Edwards is being pursued by a number of Premier League teams, with Manchester City previously being mentioned as a potential suitor.
Fry did, however, disclose that the Blues had saw the young player, possibly giving them an advantage over competitors in the pursuit of the deal.
Chelsea is pursuing Edwards.
I’ve talked to Chelsea employees who are knowledgeable and would be part in any decision-making, he claimed. They arrived to babysit Lucas, but Ronnie took them instead. There are still three weeks left in the transfer window, but they haven’t submitted an offer yet. Certainly, they like him.
Ronnie is well-known throughout the Premier League, so it’s intriguing to see players from his England Under 19 squad garnering notice right now. Southampton has recently made a significant offer for one of the players, while Chelsea just signed one of them last week. Big clubs have asked me to keep them informed if Ronnie is the subject of an offer.
“Our stance on Ronnie hasn’t changed. We would want to ensure that he was returned back to us immediately and it would take a significant bid to obtain him.
With this acquisition, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly would demonstrate his long-term thinking.
Carney Chukwuemeka and Gabriel Slonina, who are both slated to become stars in the upcoming seasons, have already been signed by the team.
Since playing time at Stamford Bridge is probably at a premium, Edwards’ development would benefit greatly by being loaned back to his present club.
