“Fix this three things and win the league” – Marcos Alonso share three areas Chelsea needs to fix before January transfer
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chelsea legend Marcos Alonso has pinpointed three critical areas Enzo Maresca must address if the club is to mount a serious title challenge this season. Despite sitting just two points behind Liverpool in the Premier League standings with a game in hand, Alonso believes that some fine-tuning could elevate Chelsea’s title-winning chances.
Marcos Alonso’s Key Suggestions
Speaking about Chelsea’s prospects, Alonso exuded confidence in their ability to secure the league title but emphasized the need for improvement in specific areas:
1. Goalkeeping Consistency
“The goalkeeper is such a big thing when I think of teams that win the title, and the defenders win you the league,” Alonso said. Reflecting on his time at Chelsea, he highlighted how Thibaut Courtois played a pivotal role in their title-winning campaign. “When I was at Chelsea, Courtois proved to us that he could win the league for us, and we had some excellent defenders back then. Liverpool got Alisson, and they won the league.”
Alonso hinted that while Robert Sánchez has potential, there’s room for growth in his performance. “I don’t say Robert Sánchez is not good, but if he really wants Chelsea to compete for the top 4 and the title, he needs to be professional and keep his head up.”
2. Strengthening the Central Defense
Chelsea’s central defense also came under scrutiny. Alonso stressed the importance of solidifying this area to provide a stable backbone for the team. “The problem now for Chelsea is to fix the goalkeeper area and the two center-backs,” he remarked.
3. Sustaining a Winning Mentality
Alonso commended Enzo Maresca for fostering a cohesive and motivated squad, attributing much of Chelsea’s current success to the manager’s efforts. “Chelsea, we all know, is all about winning trophies. Enzo Maresca has done a great job by bringing the players together and giving them that winning mentality.”
Optimism for the Future
Despite identifying areas for improvement, Alonso remains optimistic about Chelsea’s chances. “Left for the finishing line to win the league,” he concluded, underlining his belief in the team’s ability to go the distance with the right adjustments.
As the January transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Maresca and Chelsea’s moves to fortify their squad for a strong title push.
