Five Chelsea players will be dreading the shock return of Frank Lampard
Ruben Loftus-Cheek After missing much of Lampard’s first season due to injury, Loftus-few Cheek’s brief appearances at the back only served to prompt his departure from Stamford Bridge.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! After spending a season on loan at Fulham, he came back and played a significant role for Thomas Tuchel and later Graham Potter. The fans have used him as a kind of stick to beat the latter with since they don’t understand why Loftus-Cheek has featured so much given that the team spent £600 million on transfers in the previous two transfer windows. The return of N’Golo Kante and Lampard’s reportedly strong desire to maintain support from the crowd make Loftus-Chelsea Cheek’s career all but ended.
Arrizabalaga Kepa
One of the main causes of the rupture in the relationship between Lampard and the Chelsea board is reportedly the £72 million goalkeeper.
The club was unhappy with Lampard’s decision to release Kepa at the end of the 2019–20 season and urged the manager to wrap his arm around the goalkeeper rather than pushing for a new hire. In the end, Marina Granovskaia agreed to sign Edouard Mendy, which turned out to be exactly the right decision.
According to reports, Kepa was not pleased with how Lampard handled the issue and believed that he did not offer enough support, which, given his present form, would have greatly improved his mood and performances. He added that Lampard’s play was “less elaborate” and “less controlled” than Tuchel’s.
Azpilicueta, Cesar
Less than a month after Tuchel took over for Lampard, Azpilcueta declared, “Now with Tuchel everything has improved.” “The group’s efforts, from the first attacker to the last defender, have paid off, as few opportunities are given and the steadiness has returned. We strive to manage the games with and without the ball under the new coach.
In Lampard’s second season, Azpilicueta only started seven of the 18 Premier League games; James was taking over at right-back and there was no room for the club captain in a back four. Thus, it shouldn’t come as a major surprise that Azpilicueta was praising Tuchel given that the new manager switched to a back three to make room for him.
Hasrtz, Kai
Three months into Havertz’s Premier League career, Lampard defended him by saying, “Before Covid, he was playing really well as the right-sided eight.”
Havertz would actually benefit from a box-to-box position. He’s been criticised for some very terrible finishing, but he does great job up until that point, tying the play together with his deft touches and capacity to outrun opponents.
His challenge will be making the team ahead of Mason Mount, Enzo Fernandez, Mateo Kovacic, and Kante, who will be battling for the central midfield positions in what is most likely going to be a 4-3-3. There doesn’t appear to be room for him in a Lampard XI because he is neither a winger nor a No. 9.
Théodore Silva
Silva claimed that Lampard had a significant impact on his choice to join Chelsea, just as virtually every other summer 2020 signing. The Brazilian star credited Lampard’s winning attitude and club vision with facilitating his move to Stamford Bridge.
But because of Lampard’s tactics, the centre back spent a lot of that season appearing dreadfully alone at the back, seemingly ending a career that was, in reality, far from gone. Lampard frequently used Kante as the only defender for the back four in addition to playing Chilwell and James as two very attacking full-backs. Be kind to the elderly man.
