Finally Mauricio Pochettino responded to question about Chelsea signing Jordan Henderson
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has offered a measured response to inquiries regarding the potential signing of Jordan Henderson during the current transfer window. Henderson, who left Liverpool last summer for Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq, reportedly harbors a desire to return to English football, as per The Sun.
During a post-match press conference, Pochettino faced questions from football.london and other English media outlets about the possibility of Chelsea pursuing the former Liverpool captain. While Chelsea underwent a midfield overhaul in the previous transfer window with the acquisitions of Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Lesley Ugochukwu, injuries have plagued the latter two players this season.
When quizzed about the prospect of bringing Henderson to Stamford Bridge, Pochettino, remaining coy on the matter, did not outright dismiss the idea. He informed reporters that discussions with the club’s owners and sporting directors regarding specific names have yet to take place. Pochettino stated, “To be honest, we didn’t talk about names. At the moment, we are not talking about bringing players. I saw Behdad here in the manager’s room with Paul and Laurence.”
He continued, “I think tomorrow we are going to have a chat because we will be in the training ground. We didn’t talk about names or talk about position, we didn’t talk to bring players. For now, we are focusing on players like Andrey Santos to see what we are going to do.”
Despite the uncertainties surrounding Chelsea’s midfield due to injuries this season, Pochettino remained cautious about the prospect of signing Henderson in the January transfer window. At 34 years old, Henderson’s age doesn’t align with Chelsea’s typical recruitment policy of targeting younger talents. While acknowledging the team’s midfield challenges, Pochettino emphasized the need for careful consideration before making any moves in the transfer market.
In essence, the likelihood of Chelsea securing Jordan Henderson’s services this month seems remote, with the manager emphasizing a thoughtful approach to addressing squad needs and adhering to the club’s recruitment principles.
