Mason Mount’s performance has improved since Graham Potter was named Chelsea’s manager.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! While negotiations for a contract extension at Stamford Bridge are still continuing, Mason Mount has stated that he is “extremely pleased” at Chelsea. The 23-year-old midfielder is currently in the final two years of his contract, and it is thought that talks about a new agreement have already started.
The Telegraph reports that Mount is expected to sign a new contract with the Blues, but “it could take time.” According to the article, talks between the two parties started over the summer, but an agreement has not yet been reached.
If he does not agree to a new contract, it is rumored that the west Londoners will look at offensive midfielders. Lorenzo Pellegrini of Roma and Yéremy Pino of Villarreal have reportedly been named by Chelsea as prospective replacements for the England international.
However, the early indications are encouraging, and it appears like Todd Boehly won’t need to use his transfer backup plan in the summer. Just like Jack Grealish was questioned about leaving Chelsea last year, Mount was asked in an interview with Tatler Magazine if he would think about leaving the club if he were given a £100 million deal.
The Cobham graduate couldn’t think of anything to say because he had been taken off guard. He answered: “Who knows? The cash is… I’ve always been a clear-cut Chelsea boy. I’m ecstatic to be here. We’ve been taking home some hardware, which is something I always strive for.”
In the summer, Mount expressed to football. London his desire to stay at Chelsea despite the ownership change. The midfielder explained the plans of co-owner Boehly. He stated: “We had a small gathering at the hotel after the final game of the season, and he and the other consortium members were there. It was nice to see them all in person and interact with them all.
“What the future holds is very wonderful,” he continued. “Despite the fact that it is unknown, the way it has begun makes it quite interesting to watch what will happen. We are a team that has been pushing over the past ten years, and we aim to remain there.
“We agree with them when we talk to them about their objectives. So maybe that keeps going. My contract is up in two years, and I’m really, very happy here. Those discussions should begin soon.”
