According to sources, there is a belief in the footballing business that Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to acquire Manchester United from the Glazers. The Americans have controlled the Red Devils since 2005. And they’re still being vilified after 17 years.
Ratcliffe recently attempted to purchase Chelsea from Roman Abramovich but was unsuccessful.
Todd Boehly, who was in attendance when the Blues faced Leicester on Thursday night, is now in line to become the club’s owner.
Ratcliffe was reportedly unconcerned about missing out on the Blues, according to the Independent.
Instead, it’s thought that the attempt was’really about signalling to the Glazers’ that Ratcliffe is eager to acquire United.
Ratcliffe stated earlier this month that he would not attempt to purchase United since they are not for sale.
“He said, “You know, I have a dual loyalty, basically, actually.”
“When I lived in London for many years, I could watch Chelsea, but it was much more difficult to watch United.
“I understand (the clamor for him to acquire United),” he says, “but Manchester United is not for sale.”
However, something looks to be cooking behind the scenes.
From the moment they took over the club 17 years ago, the Glazers have been divisive characters.
