Enzo Maresca Achieves Rare Feat Unseen Since Thomas Tuchel’s Time
A Promising Beginning
Enzo Maresca has certainly hit the ground running since taking the reins at Chelsea, achieving a milestone that hasn’t been reached by any manager at the club since Thomas Tuchel three years ago.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Maresca’s appointment as head coach was a bit of a shock to many. The 44-year-old Italian had just led Leicester City to win the Championship title, securing promotion to the Premier League, but Chelsea represents a much bigger challenge for him. So far, though, it looks like he’s adapting well.
A Decent Start to the 2024/25 Season
As of now, Maresca has plenty to feel satisfied about with Chelsea’s start to the season. The team has racked up seven wins, two draws, and only two losses in their first 11 matches across all competitions. In the Premier League, they’ve secured fourth place on the table, amassing 14 points from seven matches.
However, there’s still room for improvement. Paul Merson, a well-known pundit, has pointed out that Chelsea should rethink their reliance on playing out from the back.

Following in Tuchel’s Footsteps
The last Chelsea manager to win the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award was Thomas Tuchel, who earned the title in October 2021. That streak has now been broken. On Friday, the Premier League’s official X account confirmed that Maresca has been named the Premier League Manager of the Month for September. This award came after his side managed to pick up 10 points from four league matches, pushing them up the standings.
Here’s how those results played out:
- Chelsea 1-1 Crystal Palace (1 September)
- Bournemouth 0-1 Chelsea (14 September)
- West Ham 0-3 Chelsea (21 September)
- Chelsea 4-2 Brighton (28 September)
Chelsea Finding Stability
It’s no secret that the past few years have been turbulent for Chelsea, especially since the new ownership took control in May 2022. After a chaotic period filled with managerial changes, it finally feels like things are starting to calm down under Maresca’s leadership.
Both Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino have had brief stints as Chelsea managers, but neither completely won over the fans. Since Thomas Tuchel’s departure, the club has struggled to find consistent success.
Though Maresca’s time at Stamford Bridge is still in its early stages, he’s off to a pretty solid start. How well he’s really faring will become clearer when Chelsea heads to Anfield after the international break to face Liverpool in the Premier League.
