Don’t expect him against Arsenal – Chelsea hit with cruel injury blow
Potter has suffered a severe setback ahead of Chelsea’s Saturday matchup with Arsenal after Denis Zakaria made a lively start.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In the second half of Chelsea’s match against Dinamo Zagreb, Denis Zakaria was substituted in place of Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The 25-year-old midfielder’s stunning debut at Stamford Bridge under the lights was regrettably cut off early.
He appeared to suffer discomfort in his right leg and sat himself down on the ground. The Swiss international gripped at the side of his upper leg as the Blues medical staff lifted him up.
Zakaria made a beeline for the dressing room after being allowed to move around the field with little to no assistance from the medical team and implying that a knock is the cause of his substitution. Graham Potter suffers a serious setback with the Swiss’ injury as Chelsea is dealt another blow in advance of Sunday’s marquee match with Arsenal.
N’Golo Kante, 31, is already out of the Blues’ midfield lineup after needing surgery to repair a hamstring injury he sustained in September against Tottenham Hotspur. Mateo Kovacic is still questionable for the Gunners game after being left out of Chelsea’s squad to play Dinamo Zagreb due to injury.
As a result, Zakaria gave Potter a strong tryout before the weekend after making his debut with a goal. The 47-year-old said in a press conference before Chelsea’s final Champions League group stage match that the star on loan will soon receive more playing time.
Every player wants to play, so it’s understandable that when they don’t, they’re upset and frustrated. Potter noted that this is typical and that nothing else should be anticipated. You can tell he wants to play so, yeah, have to understand that situation, but he is fighting for the team, being really professional in training waiting for his opportunity and I’m sure it will come around soon, but I have to say he has conducted himself fantastically well in terms of with the group, supports his teammates really well, and is always there.
“Well, we just talked about Mason Mount, and that part of the pitch has Conor Gallagher, Ruben, and Jorgi. There is a lot of competition, so he isn’t exactly doing anything wrong. Simply put, I have to begin someplace in terms of selection, and the other men must exercise patience, work hard on the side, and be available when the team needs them, which is exactly what he is doing.
Potter will be hoping that his midfielder will be available for Sunday despite the fact that the severity of Zakaria’s injury is still unknown.
