In 22 games, he contributed five goals and four assists, demonstrating his value despite just turning 16 in March.
He also made two appearances for the Under 23s team in Premier League 2 during the previous season, garnering attention for his hat-trick against Newcastle in April.
It is evident that the Saints anticipated a bright future for Dibling because he was also listed on the first team bench for a league game last season.
Though Romano says Chelsea have agreed to pay a price to sign the child, it looks he will be taking his skills to West London.
Chelsea and Dibling agree on a price
“Chelsea, still working on young prospects for the Academy,” he tweeted, “and now poised to sign U17 England international Tyler Dibling from Southampton for £1.5m.”
“Deal is set to close with full agreement in place. observes Zak Sturge, who is moving from Brighton to CFC.
Sturge, 18, is expected to join the team from the Seagulls after making an impression in PL2 last season.
Tottenham Hotspur apparently sought the wonderkid as well, but the Blues decided against signing the England U18 international.
The two will be the Blues’ upcoming acquisitions after Omari Hutchinson, an extremely promising player who crossed the capital to join from Arsenal.
The Blues hope the loan will help him break into the Royals’ first squad and provide him his first sustained run of first team games. He will now go on loan to Championship outfit Reading.
Dibling, however, is most likely to sign up with Chelsea’s U23 team in an effort to establish his value as a member of the PL2 team.
