Christopher Nkunku, a standout for RB Leipzig, is expected to be Graham Potter’s first acquisition at Chelsea as Todd Boehly attempts to bolster the team’s front line. The 24-year-transfer old’s to Stamford Bridge was hotly rumored to happen in the summer, but it never happened.
According to football.London, the Blues, who have a long-standing interest in Nkunku, thought about signing the France international in the summer but were deterred by Bayern Munich’s €100 million (£87.6 million) asking price. Late in the transfer window, the Frenchman signed a new contract with the Red Bull Arena, which naturally raised the possibility that he might leave.
However, it’s believed that a €60 million (£52.6 million) release clause was added to the deal; this option only kicks in over the summer, so Nkunku may go for far less and spare Chelsea £35 million. Additionally, The Athletic claims that the west Londoners have “agreed to pay” the aforementioned release clause to capture him before a transfer battle breaks out.
According to the report, Nkunku has signed a pre-contract deal and will join Stamford Bridge in the summer after passing a medical. According to the source, Potter will have a highly potent offensive lineup for the upcoming season.
Nkunku expressed his happiness at continuing to wear the RB Leipzig jersey after he signed an extension with the club earlier this year. It was evident after our outstanding accomplishment of winning the DFB-Pokal that my narrative here isn’t finished yet — we want more.
“The club’s attempts to keep me were truly impressive, so a great thank you to those who put their faith in me, notably Oliver Mintzlaff, with whom I had constant communication. In recent years, RB Leipzig has established itself on the world stage and has often demonstrated its title-winning potential.
