David Ornstein has share update on what he’s hearing about Karim Benzema amid Chelsea links
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Renowned journalist David Ornstein has provided a significant update on the future of Al-Ittihad striker Karim Benzema, a development that could pique the interest of Chelsea fans. Although the extent of Chelsea’s genuine interest in the Frenchman remains uncertain, recent reports from The Telegraph suggested the Blues might contemplate securing Benzema’s services on a short-term loan to Stamford Bridge. However, Ornstein, speaking on The Daily Transfer Briefing, dispels the notion of Benzema gracing the Premier League anytime soon, asserting that the striker is set to remain in the Saudi Pro League.
Ornstein sheds light on the situation, emphasizing that despite the ongoing issues at Al-Ittihad, Benzema is expected to stay put. The Athletic journalist elaborates on the 36-year-old’s predicament, stating, “Karim Benzema, to my understanding, is going to be staying in the Saudi Pro League. That’s the intention of the competition and that extends to his club Al-Ittihad despite there clearly being a bit of an issue going on right now and suggestions that he’s not turning up for training camps, etc.”
The veteran striker’s future appears entwined with Al-Ittihad, and efforts are underway to address the existing tensions. Ornstein reveals, “I’m told that he will be reintegrated into training, the meetings will be taking place, I think there are some planned in Dubai for later this week and they’ll try and smooth that situation over.”
The revelation, while settling the conjecture around Benzema’s immediate future, leaves Chelsea fans with a tinge of disappointment. The prospect of Benzema gracing Stamford Bridge, even on a short-term basis, had sparked anticipation. The seasoned striker, despite his advancing years, continues to make a considerable impact in the attacking third. In the current season, Benzema boasts a noteworthy tally of nine goals in 15 Saudi Pro League appearances, showcasing his enduring goal-scoring prowess.
The missed opportunity for Chelsea to secure Benzema, especially in light of Nicolas Jackson’s absence at the Africa Cup of Nations and Christopher Nkunku’s fitness struggles, leaves a void in the attacking arsenal. Mauricio Pochettino, the astute tactician at the helm, would undoubtedly have welcomed Benzema’s wealth of experience and goal-scoring acumen as a timely and valuable addition to the Stamford Bridge ranks. Alas, the cards of footballing fate dictate otherwise for now.
