Crystal Palace vs Chelsea Match could be postponed as rail strikes announced
Train drivers from 12 rail companies are set to strike on two days in early October, one of which is the date of the season’s first North London Derby on October 1. Chelsea will also visit Crystal Palace later in the day.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to Inews.co.uk, the strikes will take place on October 1st and 5th as part of the ongoing pay dispute. Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, major rail strikes planned for the 15th and 17th of September were cancelled as a mark of respect.
The game between Brighton and Crystal Palace was scheduled for this evening (Friday, September 16), but it was initially postponed due to previously scheduled strikes falling on either side of the game date.
The game was called off prior to news of the Queen’s funeral because there is a strong rivalry between the two, and because the Amex is especially difficult to get to without using public transportation. That game has been postponed due to policing issues ahead of the funeral, but seven of the ten scheduled games will be played this weekend.
However, some games have been played on scheduled strike days in the past, so the strike action will not necessarily result in postponements. That decision will be made solely by the Premier League, which is expected to make an announcement in the coming days or weeks.
Nonetheless, given that it is one of the country’s biggest rivalries, Arsenal and Tottenham fans will be particularly concerned about a possible postponement of their game on October 1. Saturday’s game is set to begin at 12.30 p.m.
