After his controversial interview with Piers Morgan was broadcast, the 37-year-contract old’s with Manchester United was terminated while he was competing for Portugal at the World Cup in December.
After his representative Jorge Mendes met with the new Blues co-owner Todd Boehly last summer, rumours of a surprise transfer to Chelsea began to circulate. Ronaldo was offered to Boehly because he wanted to play in the Champions League even though he had just been back at Old Trafford for a year.
Ronaldo acknowledged that he had options for his next club in his first public remark after joining the Saudi Arabian team: “I can say now that many opportunities in Europe, many clubs in Brazil, in Australia, in the US, and even in Portugal many clubs attempted to sign me.”
I promised this club—and alone Al Nassr—my word.
“My work is done in Europe; I won everything,” he continued. I’ve played for some of the top clubs in Europe, so this is a new challenge for me. I stand out as a player. I broke every record in Europe, therefore I intend to do the same here. Because I am a special player, this contract is special as well.
“Many people talk and offer their opinions, but they have no true knowledge of football. I won’t lie; I genuinely don’t care what people think. I made my choice.
Ronaldo has already committed to a massive two-year deal with his next team, reportedly worth £177 million annually. “I’m going here to win, to enjoy,” he concluded. I just want to have fun and smile.
