Under Thomas Tuchel, Kai Havertz frequently played as a false nine, and the German appeared to like the position. Two years ago, Chelsea won the Champions League thanks to his goal.
As Tuchel doesn’t want a conventional number 9, Kai Havertz has recently stated that he is prepared to fill the No. 9 position if necessary.
Havertz remarked at the Allegiant Stadium after Chelsea defeated Club America 2-1 in a preseason friendly on Saturday, “I’ve played a number of positions over the years but last season I played a lot as a No9 and it’s a position I very much like.
“Four years ago, I could never have imagined playing there, looking back. However, I’ve played it more frequently over the past two years and I enjoy the position.
“It’s still advantageous that I am adaptable and can play many places up front, but as a number nine, my primary responsibility is to score goals and provide assists.
“I constantly tell myself before a game that I want to score or assist. As a striker, you have to continually aim for that. Of course, not every game will allow it.
“Only a select few players are truly capable of doing it, and even they occasionally have difficulties. I so enter every game hoping to score and aid the squad.
Havertz said that while consistency is something he strives for, it isn’t always simple.
In football, consistency is a pretty broad term; we play every three days, and we must always maintain a good standard. I must also play consistently in every game and try to score as many goals as I can.
“Occasionally, dropping a level for one game is expected. It’s not always feasible to win games with five goals. For me, maintaining consistency is important, therefore I make an effort to do so.
