Thomas Tuchel, the club’s manager, has reported four injuries to Chelsea Football Club players.
The club had just lost to Charlotte FC in a preseason game when the German spoke. The absence of Timo Werner, Cesar Azpilicueta, Ross Barkley, and Kepa Arrizabalaga from the first team was justified by Tuchel.
Due to Timo’s hamstring issues, we decided against taking a chance tonight. Kepa experienced some pain that made it difficult for him to move freely. The pain wasn’t severe, but we decided against taking a chance. During a workout, Azpi received a severe blow to the muscle above his knee. He accidentally collided with Edou (Mendy) and is now uncomfortable, but if it had been a top league game, I believe we would have taken the chance. We simply believed that it was not worth it today in case he caused any further harm and will be out for an additional three to four days. Timo and Ross both have hamstring pain that has been present for a few days. Although it is more of a pain than an injury, we didn’t feel that there was a need to take a chance at this point in the preseason.
Christian Pulisic scored the opening goal for Chelsea in the first half, but the game ended in a draw after regulation. Chelsea lost the game 5-3 in penalties after the score remained tied at 1-1.
