According to reports, Graham Potter is more in danger of losing his job at Chelsea because a top-tier successor has reportedly told Todd Boehly that he would be willing to take his place in the dugout.
The 47-year-old Englishman was chosen to take over as Blues manager in September after Thomas Tuchel was fired. He signed a five-year contract. He was apparently persuaded to leave Brighton for Stamford Bridge after getting guarantees about his long-term future there.
A few months into the arrangement, it appears that some serious misgivings are already beginning to surface. The Blues are currently a concerning eight points behind Tottenham in fourth place after losing five games without a victory under Potter.
In fact, rumours from November indicated that Blues co-owner Boehly was already second-guessing the choice of Potter. It was also mentioned that four potential candidates were being looked at amid accusations that the role might simply be too big for him.
Potter is reportedly “not under immediate threat,” according to Football Insider, but if nothing changes in the new year, things could change.
For Potter’s benefit, it appears that the World Cup break arrived at the perfect time. Since taking over, he hasn’t had a chance to evaluate his playing group because of a busy schedule that has seen the Blues play twice a week.
However, Potter will be hoping that the season’s sabbatical has been beneficial for both Chelsea and himself.
Mauricio Pochettino expresses his interest in Chelsea
But once the season starts, the Blues will face increased pressure to do better. Boehly can see that he needs to make significant improvements since he is now seated in ninth.
Furthermore, Mauricio Pochettino’s alleged communication to Boehly that he is willing to returning to the position should one open up does not assist his predicament.
Since leaving PSG last summer, the Argentine, who is considered as one of the top coaches in the world, has been without a team. When it became clear that Tuchel would be departing, Boehly reportedly considered hiring the former manager of Tottenham.
But in the end, the American chose Potter. America was interested in his outstanding outcomes and the advancements made at AMEX.
A second managerial change of the season, though, may be imminent given the way things are going.
Pochettino has reportedly “told friends he is keen on the Chelsea job,” according to sources on Football Insider. Additionally, they claim Pochettino has expressed his “interest” in Chelsea. They further claim that the Argentine is “pushing for the post” covertly.
Pochettino recently stated his desire to return to management in remarks.
Return on management investment for Pochettino
I still feel so young! On the BBC’s World Cup broadcast, Pochettino stated.
“We decide to hold off until after the World Cup after Paris. Paris was a challenging, wonderful, but challenging, trip. And everything needs to be processed.
I have a lot of respect for professionals, and selling myself is difficult for me, he continued. You now have stuff to do. The excitement of day-to-day life contributes to the routine you develop while working. You overlook it. We now gather, drive, and eat meals as a family. Then we discuss the important discussions we spark. It is overlooked. However, we also do things that are impossible for us to do when we are fighting a work war. Family time is really healing.
We’ll have to wait and watch if Boehly decides to alter his mind again. Boehly would undoubtedly face additional criticism when Gary Neville criticised him for his transfer strategy.
