A “generational” talent in Chelsea’s lineup may have to bid farewell to manager Enzo Maresca and leave the club in January, driven by a crucial reason.
Players Facing Potential Exits from Chelsea
As the new Premier League season kicks off, we’re beginning to see which players are firmly in Maresca’s plans for 2024/2025 and who might find themselves sidelined. Some players could be on their way out of Stamford Bridge altogether. Despite the recent closure of the summer transfer window, reports are surfacing that Maresca may be considering exits for a few prominent names in his squad.
One such player is Axel Disasi, who is reportedly on Chelsea’s transfer list. Since arriving from Monaco for £38.5 million last summer, Disasi has struggled to find his form. His recent performance as a makeshift right-back against Bournemouth was underwhelming, leading to his substitution just after the hour mark. In Chelsea’s subsequent Premier League match against West Ham, Maresca opted for Tosin Adarabioyo at right-back instead of Disasi, indicating that Disasi’s time at the club could be numbered if he doesn’t improve.
Other Players at Risk
Defender Benoit Badiashile is another name potentially facing a transfer, as the £90,000-per-week French international has yet to see any action in the Premier League this season. Additionally, left-back Ben Chilwell has been heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea. Maresca even acknowledged the possibility of offloading Chilwell during the summer, but he has since returned to training with the first team.
“Hopefully we can give him some minutes tomorrow,” Maresca said about Chilwell’s situation before their EFL Cup match against Barrow. “The idea was for him to leave, but now he’s part of the squad and training. He will be included in the squad tomorrow, and we hope to see him play.”
Mykhailo Mudryk’s Challenging Situation
Then there’s winger Mykhailo Mudryk, whom Chelsea signed for £89 million (including add-ons) in January last year. Although he put in a solid performance against Barrow, playing the full match and contributing an assist, fans are eager to see him step up against top-tier opponents.
According to Football Insider and journalist Pete O’Rourke, Mudryk’s situation has been described as “difficult.” It appears that if he doesn’t start getting more regular playing time, he may have no option but to leave Chelsea in January. Despite being labeled a “generational” talent in some circles, his prospects at the club seem challenging, and Maresca has openly suggested that Mudryk needs to elevate his performance.
“I don’t think it’s a lack of confidence. Misha is Misha,” Maresca commented regarding Mudryk before the Barrow match. “You have to accept him for who he is. Hopefully, he can get more minutes and improve.”
