Chelsea is on the brink of signing a striker who netted 26 goals last season, as the club has made an approach in recent days.
New Forward Expected for Chelsea’s Maresca
The west London club is anticipated to bolster its attacking options under new head coach Enzo Maresca. Despite holding discussions with Crystal Palace over signing Michael Olise, their efforts were unsuccessful as Olise opted to join Bayern Munich instead. This setback has sent co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley back to the drawing board in their quest for top-tier attackers.
Approaching Marc Guiu and Others
Chelsea is reportedly close to securing a deal for Barcelona’s Marc Guiu. However, he might not be the only new forward joining the squad. During talks to bring Jhon Duran from Aston Villa, which didn’t materialize, it was suggested that Chelsea might sign two strikers this summer.
Last season, the Blues heavily relied on Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson for their offensive output. Now, they are in search of a new leading striker to spearhead their attack.
Jonathan David: On the Verge of Leaving Lille
One potential target is Lille’s star forward Jonathan David, who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. The 24-year-old Canadian striker had an impressive season, scoring 26 goals across 49 appearances in all competitions.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg reported on X that David is close to leaving Lille, with Chelsea having recently made an approach. West Ham is also interested in the striker, making the competition for his signature fierce.
High Praise for David’s Talent and Work Ethic
David’s former coaches have praised his dedication and impact. Hanny El-Magraby, a renowned youth coach in Ottawa, highlighted David’s willingness to learn and his leadership qualities. “He listens and takes advice, always striving to improve,” said El-Magraby. “Jonathan knew what he wanted to achieve and was always open to guidance. His character and determination set him apart.”
Joe Fournier, another of David’s youth coaches, spoke about his significant influence on soccer in Canada. “Jonathan was always eager to spend as much time as possible on the field,” Fournier recalled. “His dedication has inspired many, transforming soccer into a primary sport in some schools. His impact on soccer in Ottawa is immense.”
The Future of Jonathan David
Both coaches believe that David has the potential to become one of the world’s best players. “The sky is the limit for him,” said El-Magraby. With Chelsea making moves to sign him, David could soon be showcasing his talents in the Premier League, leading the line for the Blues under Enzo Maresca.
