Chelsea start interviewing FIVE managers for the Chelsea job
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Telegraph reports that Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, owners of Chelsea, are keen to go through a more comprehensive selection process than they did when choosing Graham Potter to lead the team in September.
Chelsea will speak with at least five managers as the Blues look for a long-term replacement for Potter, who was fired on Sunday after Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.
The early favourite for the Chelsea position is Julian Nagelsmann, who previously collaborated with Chelsea’s technical director Christopher Vivell and sports director Laurence Stewart at RB Leipzig.
Mauricio Pochettino and Luis Enrique, who are also unemployed, will apparently also be interviewed by Chelsea. Moreover, negotiations will reportedly be sought with Luciano Spalletti of Napoli and at least one other candidate, maybe Oliver Glasner of Eintracht Frankfurt.
Since each of those managers has a unique approach and personality, Chelsea will do extensive investigations and due diligence to determine which manager is most qualified to oversee the club’s initiative.
Boehly and Eghbali managed the hiring process for Potter alone last September as they lacked a sports staff to rely on. They only spoke with Pochettino and the previous head coach of Brighton.
The co-controlling owners Boehly and Eghbali have now put Stewart and Winstanley in charge of the process, with the co-controlling owners planning to play supporting roles. There have been accusations that Chelsea has now paid the price for hurrying the hiring of Potter.
