Encouragement from Within the Squad
A Chelsea squad member has been actively encouraging a potential recruit to join Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Early Summer Deals and Future Targets
Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, have been leading another busy transfer window. The club has already spent £105 million on new arrivals, including Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Brazilian star Estevao Willian. Sales of players like Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech, Lewis Hall, Omari Hutchinson, and Ian Maatsen have brought in around £84 million, keeping the net spend to about £21 million.
Chelsea is also in a high-stakes race to sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, with Arsenal providing stiff competition. Additionally, the club is eyeing more senior forwards to strengthen Maresca’s squad. While 18-year-old Guiu, who joined from Barcelona, shows great potential, he might be more of a long-term investment. Estevao will not join the team until 2025, so Chelsea is still on the lookout for immediate attacking reinforcements.
Potential New Signings
Reports from France suggest that Chelsea has submitted a bid for Brazilian winger Wesley. Other sources indicate that the club is prepared to make an offer for Napoli star Victor Osimhen to fill the striker position. Another persistent name in the rumor mill is Spain starlet Nico Williams. The 21-year-old impressed during Euro 2024 and notched up 19 assists for Athletic Bilbao last season. He also has a connection to Chelsea through his international teammate, Marc Cucurella.
Cucurella’s Influence
Cucurella has been encouraging Williams to join Chelsea. In an interview with Spanish newspaper Sport, via TEAMtalk, Cucurella said, “He is a great player, he is bringing out all his potential. It is a source of pride that he is on our team, that he is our teammate and with players like him everything is easier. He would be a great signing [for Barcelona], but it all depends on what he wants. I’ve been telling him to sign for Chelsea. In the end, everything depends on him, he is very young, with a lot of experience. I think he will be a great player.”
Williams’ Potential Move
Williams, who earns a reported £200,000-per-week at Bilbao, could be available for his £49 million release clause. If Chelsea succeeds in signing him, it could be a significant boost for the club’s attacking options.
