At the end of the month, the Frenchman’s contract with Barcelona ends, and he hasn’t been persuaded to sign a new, long-term agreement.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! This may open the door for a free transfer departure, and according to Marca, Chelsea is doing all in its power to sign the World Cup champion from last year.
Raheem Sterling of Manchester City is expected to join the Blues, although manager Thomas Tuchel would really want to have both Sterling and Dembele.
Our opinion
Numerous injuries have impeded Dembele’s career at Barcelona, and last season was quite similar. Due to a knee injury incurred while serving abroad, he missed the first four months.
He played in 21 La Liga games and ended the season with one goal and 13 assists. If he can avoid injuries for a lengthy period of time, he would be a good addition to Chelsea.
Tuchel still seems intent on enticing him to Stamford Bridge despite the worry around his history of injuries. If Chelsea can find a good deal for him, it will be intriguing to watch.
Dembele may also want to be among the top-paid players at the club, therefore he will likely seek a big signing-on fee on a free transfer. The 25-year-old would also want a job that was certain to start.
Tuchel may guarantee him playing time, but the rest will be up to the hierarchy and, in particular, new owner Todd Boehly, who has accepted responsibility for concluding transfer transactions this summer.
Romelu Lukaku is expected to return to Inter on a season-long loan, solving a high-profile exodus for Chelsea even if no new players have yet been brought in. Boehly took part in the talks between the clubs.
For £6.9 million with other payments, the Belgian will re-join Inter. His whole season’s pay will be saved by Chelsea.
