Chelsea Ready to Offload Wingers Before Transfer Window Closes
Following the £54 million signing of Pedro Neto from Wolves, Chelsea are gearing up for more changes in their squad. According to reports, the club is considering parting ways with some of their existing wide players, including Noni Madueke, who joined the Blues earlier this year.
Impact of Neto’s Arrival and Felix Talks on Current Wingers
With Neto’s arrival and ongoing discussions to bring Joao Felix back from Atletico Madrid, the futures of several wingers at Chelsea have become uncertain. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Chelsea might let go of high-earning winger Raheem Sterling if Felix makes a return to Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, Madueke, who was already concerned about his playing time, now faces additional competition.
Madueke’s Journey and Potential Exit
Madueke, who was signed from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, has made 46 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, contributing nine goals and three assists. In the previous season alone, the 22-year-old delivered eight goals and three assists in 34 matches, starting in the final nine Premier League games under manager Mauricio Pochettino. His performances helped Chelsea secure Europa Conference League qualification.
However, despite his late-season surge, there are now rumors that Chelsea could be willing to sell Madueke for around £40 million. Newcastle United has reportedly begun discussions with Madueke’s representatives, fueling speculation about his departure.
Possible Domino Effect: Winger Departures After Neto and Felix Deals
The timing of Madueke’s possible exit is no coincidence, coming right after Neto’s signing. If Felix also returns to Chelsea, it could trigger a domino effect, with both Madueke and Sterling potentially leaving to accommodate the new additions from Portugal.
Chelsea Planning to Sell Angelo Gabriel Alongside Madueke
In addition to Madueke, another 2023 signing is on the verge of leaving. BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella reports that Brazilian winger Angelo Gabriel, who was brought in from Santos last year, is no longer part of Chelsea’s long-term plans.
Gabriel’s Future Uncertain After Loan Spell at Strasbourg
Gabriel spent the 2023/2024 season on loan at Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club in France, where he made 25 appearances and provided four assists. Despite showing promise, the 19-year-old winger has returned to Chelsea only to find himself lower in the pecking order. Rather than sending him out on another loan, Chelsea is now considering selling Gabriel.
Turkish Club Besiktas Shows Interest in Gabriel
Turkish side Besiktas has expressed interest in signing Gabriel permanently, but Chelsea’s owners, Todd Boehly and BlueCo, seem keen on securing a permanent move for the Brazilian elsewhere. Gabriel was brought in just over a year ago, yet the club appears ready to move on after his brief stint in France.
Both Madueke and Gabriel’s futures at Chelsea look increasingly uncertain as the summer transfer window edges toward its deadline, with Chelsea continuing to reshape their squad in preparation for the upcoming season.
