Chelsea Still Looking to Offload Ben Chilwell Despite Summer Transfers
Despite Chelsea’s significant efforts to offload players during the summer transfer window, it appears their work isn’t finished. Ben Chilwell remains at Stamford Bridge, even though the transfer window has closed for most European clubs.
Chilwell’s Fall from First-Team Grace
Just last season, Chilwell served as Chelsea’s vice-captain, but now he finds himself without a path back to the first team. Marc Cucurella is firmly entrenched as the club’s first-choice left-back, and Renato Veiga, a summer arrival, has impressed enough to secure the backup role. This leaves Chilwell on the fringes, with Chelsea still exploring options to offload him, particularly to countries where the transfer window remains open.
Chelsea Offer Chilwell to Turkish Clubs
Turkey is one such country where the transfer market is still active, and according to Sports Digitale, Chelsea has offered Chilwell to three of Turkey’s top clubs: Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, and Başakşehir. However, so far, there has been no response from any of these teams.
Brentford reportedly showed late interest in Chilwell during the English transfer window, but nothing materialized from their inquiry.
The Reason Behind Chilwell’s Exclusion
Many are left wondering why there is no route back into the Chelsea squad for the England international. The answer may lie in some of the decisions made by Enzo Maresca during Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Malo Gusto Trialed at Left-Back
Maresca experimented with Malo Gusto in an inverted left-back role, while Reece James remained the preferred choice at right-back. Reports suggest that Gusto’s performances in this role have contributed to Chilwell’s exclusion from the first-team picture.
Adding to this, Chilwell was omitted from Chelsea’s squad for the Conference League group stage, with the club seemingly looking toward the future. Young players like Kiano Dyer will have opportunities to prove themselves in what the club hopes will be comfortable matches throughout the competition.
As it stands, Chilwell’s future at Chelsea remains uncertain, but it’s clear that the club is still open to finding him a new destination.
