Chelsea have reportedly made a solid offer for a second striker just hours after news broke of their interest in Victor Osimhen.
Striker Woes from Last Season
Last season, Chelsea struggled without a reliable goalscoring striker. Nicolas Jackson failed to deliver, and Christopher Nkunku spent much of the season sidelined with injuries.
New Coach, New Strategy
With Enzo Maresca taking over from Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s management is keen on bolstering their attacking options to give the new coach a fighting chance.
Osimhen Negotiations
On Tuesday, it was revealed that Chelsea are in discussions with Napoli over a deal for Victor Osimhen. Romelu Lukaku might be part of the deal, heading the other way. However, Chelsea needs either Osimhen’s £110 million release clause reduced or a restructured deal.
Loan Deal Possibility
A loan arrangement has been considered, with Napoli wanting an obligation to buy clause if Chelsea qualifies for the Champions League. Although Osimhen has agreed on personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain, he is reportedly interested in moving to Stamford Bridge if an agreement is reached.
Second Striker Target: Maximilian Beier
But Chelsea’s transfer activities don’t stop there. According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea has made a firm offer for Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier. The 21-year-old had an impressive season in the Bundesliga, scoring 16 goals and providing three assists in 33 games, helping his team secure a Europa League spot.
Competing Interests
Plettenberg reports that Aston Villa has also made an offer for Beier, and “two more top clubs from abroad have shown interest in the last hours.” Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are also in the mix, but no formal negotiations have started with Hoffenheim, nor have any verbal agreements been made with Beier.
Beier’s Release Clause
Beier, who made a substitute appearance for Germany at Euro 2024, has a release clause of €30m (£25.3m). A decision on his future is expected within the next two weeks.
Summer Signings
So far this summer, Chelsea have signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Omari Kellyman, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu, and Tosin Adarabioyo.
